I was playing Forza one day, tuning an A class BMW M635CSi, and all of a sudden my dad looks at the TV and says “Is that a 635CSi?”.

I had no clue until now that my dad is a huge fan of the E24 and has been ever since they were in showrooms.

There needs to be one on Craigslist yesterday.

Does he know how affordable they are now? Now that I've owned one I have to encourage anyone that can get one, to get one

I see them bounce between 3500 and 6500 in the Seattle area, though they are uncommon. Probably my favorite bimmer. Would be tough for me to choose between that or a W123 Coupe.

There isn’t much that can go wrong mechanically. They’re confortably in the era of BMW overbuilding everything, and M30s are basically the most reliable engine they ever made. As long as it’s dry, and doesn’t have too many electrical issues you should be golden. They are old enough that random things can go wrong, but that’s not due to any faults, just because age. Like mine snapped its distributor rotor off, and that parked it for a couple days till a new cap and rotor got shipped from Edmonton or something, and I had to replace a section of exhaust pipe that rusted. But that’s it, the thing was dead reliable otherwise.

The E24 is one of my favorite BMWs ever. I would love to own one some day.
